This was my attempt at reflecting the altered weather conditions described in the book. I really liked the pink clouds idea. I had a lot of difficulty with this as the original photo was taken in dark conditions, as our own weather was putting its oar in at the time. This didn’t give me much leeway with the contrast and colours and the over all effect was too old school digital enhanced photo.
I kind of like the retro pop look as well but I abandoned this as it was taking up a lot of time and the dead line was looming!
Who knows the effect could be useful one day.
The back cover also posed a considerable challenge. Producing a striking image that complements the front cover, but that also leaves room for a blurb and barcode is a difficult ask. There were various attempts at this. This is one of my favourites but in the end chose to leave out Sky so there was room for the blurb.
We liked the idea of Sky being just black and white and a single colour somewhere in the picture. Sky’s eyes are often mentioned in the Runners story, so I picked up on that and tied it in with a blue font. This was more tricky to do than I anticipated. I imagined I could just use the natural blue of Erin’s (Sky’s) eyes and use that in the font. In reality the natural blue colour was really delicate but too subtle to make the image work properly. In the End I had to make the font a few shades darker than the eyes.
Well thats another Saturday morning spent pandering to the whims of a Pompous arrogant self inflated person. Hey Ho!
Lets get back to Art!
This was a possible for the front cover and I did a few versions of this. I liked the atmosphere it created but somehow it wasn’t quite right.
For now here’s a picture of my banana.
